About R.M.K.K.

Rocky Mountain Klee Kai is owned and operated by Black Ice Kennels, LLC - a high quality, show kennel nestled in the western Rocky Mountains in Northern Utah.  We have bred and shown Champion Siberian Huskies for years.

Loving all things husky - we first became interested in the Alaskan Klee Kai breed in 2000.  We fell in love with these precious little huskies right away.  It took a while to obtain our first Alaskan Klee Kai - which we were fortunate to bring home in 2004.  Since that time we have obtained many more Alaskan Klee Kai puppies.

Rocky Mountain Klee Kai is a member of the Alaskan Klee Kai Association of America (also referred as AKKAOA).

The Alaskan Klee Kai, which has the appearance of a miniature Alaskan Husky, is a registered breed of the United Kennel Club.

It is a small canine variety that has captured the hearts of nearly everyone who has come to know them.

Rocky Mountain Klee Kai is one of several national breeders who are privileged to bring to the public this incredibly special breed.  Please read through our website and learn more about the Klee Kai - and thank you for visiting!

Responsible Ownership of a dog means:

• Making careful choices when deciding which breed is right for you and your situation.
• Realizing that you will be owning this pet for LIFE, and dedicating yourself to the life of your dog.
• Putting the effort into proper care of your puppy (proper veterinary care, vaccinations, de-worming, proper feeding).
• Learning all you can about proper feeding and making healthy choices (ask your breeder!)
• Investing in proper veterinary health care throughout your dog's life.
• Training your dog through gentle and humane means to be a good canine citizen.
• Teaching your children to respect animals and not abuse them through play.
• Not just breeding your dog because he is "so cute" or "the kids need to learn about birth and procreation."
• Doing your part to help the pet overpopulation problem by keeping your intact dog at home and away from other intact animals, or neutering him or her to prevent future health issues.
• Teaching fellow humans how to interact with your dog.
• Providing your dog with a family and a home, not just food and shelter. Dogs are very social, and isolation from the family will result in an unhappy, and ultimately, unhealthy dog.  Your dog is a  lifelong responsibility. Be a responsible pet owner: research the breed and breeder you are interested in before purchasing, Provide the best care possible for your pet, spay or neuter, and make provisions in your will for your pet’s care when you are gone.

AKKAOA is a nationwide organization devoted to the promotion and welfare of the Alaskan Klee Kai (AKK), an Alaskan husky in miniature.

AKKAOA is dedicated to:

  • promoting and improving knowledge of the Alaskan Klee Kai and dogs in general;

  • to do all possible to bring the natural qualities of the pure-bred Alaskan Klee Kai to perfection through selective breeding;

  • to encourage genetic awareness within the breed by occasionally polling members as to the problems they may have encountered and publishing a list or brochure from the information collected giving clinical signs, methods of diagnosis, age of onset, mode of inheritance and potential treatments and prognosis when these things are known;

  • to aid with every possible means in demonstrating the conspicuous ability of the Alaskan Klee Kai as a companion;

  • to encourage the organization of local Alaskan Klee Kai Clubs in those localities where there are sufficient fanciers of the breed to meet the requirements of The United Kennel Club;

  • to educate members and to urge breeders to adhere to the standard of the breed as approved by The United Kennel Club as a standard of excellence by which Alaskan Klee Kai may be judged;

  • to encourage sportsmanlike competition at all dog shows, and dog functions; to conduct sanctioned matches and shows under the rules of The United Kennel Club.

The Alaskan Klee Kai Association of America gained recognition for the breed with the United Kennel Club (which is the second largest Registry in America) on January 1, 1997.
